The host hotel for TRIRI® 2010 is the Holiday Inn Scottsburg (812.752.0000). Fifty rooms are available at $79.00 + tax. Should these rooms fill, the Holiday Inn will refer you to other nearby hotels in the area.
Packet pick-up will be held at the hotel the evening before the ride starts; see the Participant Newsletter for details. Packets will also be distributed at Hardy Lake the before the ride starts. If you are a Daily Rider, see a staff member after you join the tour to get your packet. No packets or route maps will be mailed prior to the ride.
Our staging area will be at Hardy Lake SRA (812.794.3800), just over 10 miles from our host hotel. Hardy Lake is located at 4171 E Harrod Rd, Scottsburg, IN. Rest rooms and showers will be available in the beach shower house before and after TRIRI®; bring your own soap and towel if you wish to shower before you drive home after the tour.
Parking for the week will be available at the beach parking lot. The $7.00 TRIRI® week-long Parking Permit is required for this service. We are providing a place for you to leave your vehicle for the week, but neither TRIRI®, Hardy Lake, nor the Indiana DNR is responsible for the safety of your vehicle, as is noted in the waiver.
All state parks gate entry and group camping fees are covered by your TRIRI® registration. TRIRI® group campsites are located near shower facilities with limited electrical outlets. All vehicles parked overnight at the tour campsites must display the special permit for registered drivers.
Padre's Cycle Inn will provide comfort camping services on TRIRI® 2010. Please visit Padre's web site to learn more or to register.
Lodging at the Indiana State Park inns will be available during the week at the regular summer room rate. A block of rooms has been reserved for TRIRI® participants; use the code given in the Participant Newsletter (PDF) to reserve a room.
There is a Comfort Inn (812.273.4443) two miles from Clifty Falls State Park on SR 62. If you wish to stay there, plan to ride your bike to and from the park (it's flat) and carry your clothing and toilet articles in a small knapsack. No transport of baggage, bicycles or riders will be provided to off-site lodging.
The DNR will provide baggage transport to the Indiana State Park inns. Plan to ride your bicycle to the inns.
A bicycle mechanic will accompany TRIRI® with a rolling shop to make bicycle repairs both on the road and in the campgrounds (charging for labor and parts).
TRIRI® provides campers with baggage transportation to each day's destination. Unfortunately, due to staffing limitations, we are not able to transport luggage into nearby towns for riders who find lodging there. If you plan to use hotels, bring a small backpack to take a change of clothing and toilet supplies with you to your hotel, leaving the rest of your gear on the baggage truck.
Massage therapy will be available during the week from Valerie Wimsett. Reserve your sessions prior to TRIRI® (email vwimsett@yahoo.com or phone 812.240.0344). You can also sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis during the tour.
Any type of bicycle in good working condition is welcome on TRIRI®. Though most of our participants ride road bikes, many with hybrids, recumbents, trikes, and tandems complete our tours successfully. Our 2008 route is rolling to hilly, so be prepared to pace yourself, and be ready for some climbing. We find that many people enjoy the lower gears provided by a triple crankset or a compact crank in our terrain.
Plan to carry items you will need during the day's ride, and to eat lunch at a location of your choosing along the route each day. Luggage is limited to two duffel bags (no hard plastic containers allowed) not to exceed a total maximum weight of 50 lbs. per person. All items must be inside these bags, and they must have the official TRIRI® baggage tags that will be in your registration packet. Do not bring valuables or items easily damaged by water. Bicycling helmets are strongly recommended! Make sure they are CPSC approved and properly adjusted to fit your head. Riders must be in good physical condition and trained sufficiently for this event.
